🧘♀️ How to Prepare for a Trauma-Informed Yoga Class
Starting something new—especially something healing—can feel overwhelming. At NeuroNest Yoga, we honor that. Whether you’re joining a live Zoom session, downloading a course, or stepping into your first digital retreat, here’s what you need to know to feel grounded, safe, and seen.
1. 📍You Do Not Need Experience
This is not power yoga. This is nervous system work. You are not here to “perform” a pose—you’re here to reconnect with your body in the way that feels safest for you. Come exactly as you are.
2. 🧰 Suggested Items to Bring
Create a physical space that supports emotional safety:
A yoga mat or soft rug
Pillows and blankets
A journal or sketchpad (optional)
A water bottle or warm tea
Comfort objects: fidget toys, weighted items, crystals, stuffed animals, anything grounding
Headphones if you want auditory control
Eye mask or sunglasses (for those who are light-sensitive)
3. 🌐 Virtual Class Tips
You’re never required to turn on your camera.
Mute/unmute is optional—many people stay muted the whole time.
Chat is open for questions, shares, or opt-outs.
You can leave anytime. No explanations needed. Your agency is sacred.
4. 🤍 What to Expect Emotionally
Sometimes, the stillness will feel peaceful. Other times, it might bring up grief, anger, or disconnection. That’s okay. Trauma-informed yoga welcomes all of you—including the parts still healing.
“If you cry during class, that’s yoga.
If you shake or dissociate, that’s yoga.
If you need to lie down for the entire session, that’s still yoga.”
— NeuroNest Teaching Philosophy
5. 🧠 Your Choice Matters
At NeuroNest, choice is medicine. We offer modifications, invite—not command—movement, and center your lived experience. You are always allowed to say no.
6. ✉️ Need Accommodations?
Just email us at support@neuronestyoga.com. Let us know your access needs, sensory preferences, or anything that would help you feel safer.
🌱 Final Words
There is no wrong way to show up. You don’t need to be calm, flexible, regulated, or spiritually inclined. You only need to be willing to try. We’ll meet you there—with care, softness, and zero judgment.
